- Do you think you'll run into an ethics situation at work? Actually, it's common to encounter things that just don't feel right, the situation that will test your personal ethics. It matters considerably for you and your business that you perform appropriately in these instances. I suggest taking three steps if you see something that isn't quite aligned with your ideas of right and wrong. First, clearly identify the potential ethics problem. Make sure you know exactly what's wrong, and ensure you don't misunderstand something. Second, make sure your data is accurate. Firsthand information is best, if not, ensure you can verify the information you have. And last, take action. Based on your role, you can talk to the person whose ethics are in question, or notify your manager or others in your organization who address ethics issues.
