Ethical leadership responsibilities
- Where ethics live is within the people. In fact, the leaders of the organization are the ethics of the organization. Most companies have a set of documented ethical standards. And while that provides guidance and it's good that that provides guidance, whatever behavior comes out of the leaders of the organization represents the ethics of the organization. So the leaders themselves are the ethics of the organization. You're representing a company whether you like it or not. Here's what I'll tell most leaders particularly when the become a leader in an organization for the first time. I'll say you don't realize this and there's nothing you can do about this but if you lead 20 people, you're the topic of dinner conversation in 20 houses that night and there's not a darn thing you could do about it.
