Equality and equity
- Have you ever thought about your company's main programs and policies and questioned whether they were actually fair for all employees? Or were they just designed in favor of a certain privileged group? It's easy for companies and leadership teams to say they promote equality in the workplace, implementing processes and policies with a broad brush, but tougher to ensure it's a reality. In a society where some people have more privilege than others, structuring company programs to treat everyone the same actually isn't fair. It simply enables many people to sit in their privilege, giving them even more of a boost, and perpetuates unequal outcomes. I'm going to walk you through the difference between creating equality in your policies and what you should be aiming for, creating equity.
