- When advocating for yourself at work, you're going to want to be considerate of timeliness. For those of us who work nine to five, I think we all know that the two o'clock slump in the afternoon is real. I think we also know that nobody wants to be asked something new at four o'clock on a Friday afternoon. As it turns out, research backs this up, that there are certain times that are better than others to ask for something new or to ask for a raise or promotion at work. In fact, people are more likely to take action on aspirational behaviors at the start of a new time period, like a new month, a new year, a new day, or a new week. It's why we tend to be more productive on a Monday than a Friday on average, and it's why we tend to be more focused at the start of the day than at the end.
