- Great meetings where the face-to-face or virtual have an active role for participants. There's nothing more boring than sitting, listening to a long presentation with no role apart from to be quiet and perhaps ask questions at the end. Here are six key principles for creating active engagement in your meetings. First, focus on the participant experience. If the topic doesn't require the active participation of attendees, then look for other ways to distribute the information. Plan how you want people to participate right from the start. A great question to ask is what do I want people to know, do or feel as a result of being at this meeting? Second, keep groups small. If you want real participation groups of four to six, people are perfect.
