- If you want to have massive success in managing a young team, you must empower them. A lot of times, leaders feel the need to micromanage their young employees. Sometimes that may be necessary, but it takes a lot of time, causes stress for both the employee and the manager, and does not always get you the desired result. There is a better way. One of my favorite car rental companies is the master of employee empowerment. But they have a specific foundation to make it work. First, you have to have clear guidelines for your young employees, if you're going to allow them to make their own decisions. Make sure they are clear on the policies and procedures of your company, what they can and can't do. In the rental car company example, the employees are allowed to do just about whatever it takes to make the customer happy, without worrying about backlash from their manager.
