Born in Vienna in 1909, Drucker witnessed Europe's economic collapse in 1930. The implosion made a deep impression on him. He saw that business wasn't just a way to make money but a method of ensuring democracy and societal stability. Drucker's key business tenants include first, serve the customer. This is the purpose of a business. Second, act, don't just talk. Drucker wrote that plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work. Third, ask the right questions. Drucker made complex matters simple by asking probing questions to drill down to the essential issues. Fourth, bring the outside in.
