- I was part of a team responsible for transferring a complete product line from Europe and Asia to the Americas. This project contained thousands of technical drawings and specifications in different languages and formats. What was budgeted for a six-month transfer ended up taking over 18 months, mostly due to extra time spent clarifying handwritten notes, inconsistent revision levels, poor translations, and other problems we found on these documents. Drawings and specifications are important ways to transmit technical details to execute tasks. When these details are unclear, they can create costly mistakes and even re-work. Based on lessons learned, here are some suggestions to help you avoid these problems. First, make sure that your drawing is as clear and unambiguous as possible.
