Do's and don'ts when you get home from work
- Working and socializing can be very painful and draining when you're depressed. As a result, you might spend your entire day wishing that you could be at home by yourself. The minute you get home, you may be tempted to draw the shades, throw off your clothes, and jump right into bed with the covers over your head. As comforting as this sounds, it's the wrong thing to do. When you're depressed, the way you spend time at home can make things much better at work the next day. Researchers have asked people who have been depressed what was most helpful to them when they got home, and some of their answers may come as a surprise. There are three broad principles. Cope actively, live actively, and participate in social life. Coping actively means that you must be proactive about understanding and treating your depression. Aside from scheduling therapy sessions, read as much as you can about depression to educate yourself about the many types of depression, and treatment approaches as well.…
