- There's one more step you can take to ensure women's voices are amplified at work. Spread the word. Not everyone knows this stuff. And bringing it to people's attention can be as simple as calling in and calling out. We all have an idea of what calling out looks like, right? If you're in a meeting and you notice a woman is interrupted or talked over, interject. You might say, hey, John, I'm not sure that Susan was done making her point just yet, Susan? In effect, what you're doing is a more assertive version of passing the mic. You're passing it back after it's been swiped from a woman who had the floor. And to be clear, the same could be done when a woman is the one who's frequently interrupting other women, too. Remember, research finds that women are the ones who are more often interrupted, but not necessarily just by men. Both men and women interrupt women more often.
