- Knowing and defining your personal vision is essential to making work meaningful. A vision is a mental projection of where we're going to be at some point in the future. Each of us has a personal vision we carry with us each day. Our vision guides our actions even if we don't realize it. We're often driven to make that vision a reality whether or not we believe we can. If the values define how and why we're going to go about doing things, the vision describes where we're headed with our life and our career and when we're going to reach that. A vision is different than a mission statement, which is usually a sentence or two that describes how you want to live your life.
