- Just because team members have two bosses, it doesn't mean you're only half as responsible for their development. Imagine if both bosses believed it was the other boss's responsibility to develop this person. That person wouldn't get any development at all. Invest an appropriate amount of time in leading and developing your team members. Encourage your peer boss to do the same. A big benefit of a matrix organization is people get more development from more perspectives. There are a few ways that you can achieve this incremental development. Set regular development conversations monthly with this team member. Ask your peer boss to do the same for this person. You can even ask the team member to set similar time and objectives with their other boss. Review this person's development plan.
