- The second part of compassion is wishing the best for others. Have you ever been scrolling through social media and found yourself a little bit jealous of someone else? Maybe like, oh my God, they're going to Hawaii again or that guy got promoted or, oh man, she looks so glamorous and I don't feel that way. Sure, we all have. Envy and jealousy can get in the way of this wishing the best for others. And that's a problem. Another thing that gets in the way is we feel like that person is not like us. Maybe they don't believe the same things as us, or they come from a different culture or have different values than we do, or they don't look like us. This focusing on our differences can also get in the way of wishing the best for others. In fact, really get in the way of wishing the best for others.
