Demonstrating warmth in action

- Verbal and nonverbal communication both contribute to the interpretation of the warmth of a first impression. Let's look at some personal pitches in action, and evaluate what the speaker could be doing differently. Here is the first one. May is speaking to a recruiter. What do you notice about her body language? What can she do to demonstrate more warmth? Pause the video now, and write down three things you observe. Okay, let's debrief. Did you say that she could lean in a little more? What about gestures? Could at least one of the two hands be gesturing? If there's one thing I noticed, it's that her face is not very animated. This may not come very natural to May, but a slight smile, or just a small facial expression, would show more enthusiasm. Now let's take a look at a video interview. What stands out to you?
