Define expectations in your team
- Reasonable people with the same goals will approach projects differently. This is why it's critical for teams to document expectations and norms for how they'll work together. Take for example Ted and Fred. Ted is one of those people who gets a burst of energy right before a deadline, and does his best work under pressure. Fred on the other hand likes to plan out every detail and pace the work evenly to completion. You can easily see how this led to friction among teammates. Left unspoken, this friction turned into a simmering conflict, trust eroded, and everyone involved couldn't wait to get out of the project. This could have been avoided with some constructive conversations to communicate clear expectations. The team's charter should establish some ground rules for how to handle these types of things.
