Data visualization for project management

- A picture is worth a thousand words, because our brains are wired to interpret images a lot faster than text. So use that to your advantage when you're managing a project by making your data visual. For example, if you're sharing percentages like the percentage of completion for your activities, use a pie chart. If you're showing the number or frequency of something or a comparison, try a bar chart. To show how something changes over time, you can use a line chart. And if you want to compare two different criteria, you can use a matrix or a heat map. This one shows where risks fall based on probability and impact. Right away this chart will prompt people to ask about the five risks that have a high probability and a high impact. In order to make your charts really useful, keep them and clean and simple. Don't fill them up with text or include unnecessary details like extra decimal points or lots of labels.…
