- In Jakarta, I was scheduled for a pre-dinner speech at 7:00 PM. "Just ignore that announcement", I was advised. We tell people to get here at 7:00, hoping they'll arrive by 8:00, but just to be on the safe side the speaker never goes on before 9:00. In Toronto, my session was to start at 8:00 AM, but when I arrived an hour early, there was already a line of people standing outside the auditorium. "Oh, yes", the meeting planner told me, "we Canadians have a habit of getting places early. Here's my question, which example of being on time feels right to you, the one from Indonesia or Canada, or neither? Your answer of course depends on your cultural background because various cultures relate to time very differently.
