- Begin with the end in mind I love that phrase. When you know where you're going, it makes it so much easier to figure out how to get there. Now at this point we have created the desired state, the vision, the mission, the values, and our long-term goals. But now it's time to take it one step further. It's time to create the key strategic initiatives. In other words, what is it going to look like when we get there? A key strategic initiative is a deeper look at what you think it will look like when you get there. What will be different in your company? What changes will be made? What impact will it have? This, at first glance, can seem like a surface exercise. But I caution you to take it seriously. The key strategic initiatives are the story and defined image of what your business will look like once your strategic plan is complete. Think about it. Will your business have increased? Will you be serving different markets? Will you be able to offer more benefits or take more vacation…
