- One of the most interesting, and at times, most frustrating aspects of freelancing is that you never know how a conversation will go with a new client. Even as you get better at identifying your target clients, you'll still need to figure out each client's unique situation, so you can show them you're the best choice for the job. And because each client has different needs and different budgets, it's best to have both upsell and downsell options ready to offer. An upsell is an add-on service to the work you're already doing. You want it to be a logical option for the client, where they can immediately see the value at a price point they might be willing to spend. For example, if you're a designer and offer a brand identity package with a logo and brand standards, you could offer a few upsell options.
