- Wouldn't it be great if a sales professional could be automatically reminded to perform a certain task like following up with a potential client or reviewing call notes. What if the automated sales program could diagnose a deficiency that the sales representative was having and automatically propose training. Well, with sales gamification, that's possible using what's known as triggers and alerts which then get tied to other gamification elements. In technical terms, a trigger is a procedure that initiates an action when an event occurs. Let me show you a quick example. Here I am participating in an onboarding program as a new sales rep. A trigger can be a time period such as two weeks or it can be something such as not doing well on a knowledge check. I'm going to go ahead and do a knowledge check and not do well, and let's see what gets triggered. Most triggers function along with an alert.
