- Creating an executive summary or your condensed version of your experience is essential to advancing in your mid-career. At mid-career many people are still utilizing a junior level summary as they talk to their professional connections and promote themselves online. For instance, I see a lot of summaries that start out with a current title, years of experience, and a task-oriented statement. For example, director of marketing with 20 years of experience creating promotional material and developing tools to expand the business. In an executive summary, you need to move away from the historical perspective with a task-oriented approach to one that is future focused and shows your leadership capacity.
