Creating ownership of your strategic plan

- Step one of strategic planning is developing and building the plan. Step two is to take action and get the plan fully implemented. Implementation of your strategic plan can only happen if the people in charge of implementing it have the desire to implement it. People support what they help create, and the success of your strategic plan is directly related to how much ownership your team has of the plan. As a strategic planner, I would much rather have a weak strategic plan developed by the people who have to implement it than a strong and solid plan driven top-down. For a strategic plan to really be effective, it not only has to be well communicated, it needs to be owned by your team. This is creating ownership of your strategic plan, and you need ownership because the more engaged your team is in the success of the plan, the better chance your plan has of succeeding.
