- In March, 1999, a small startup called Salesforce was struck with a powerful thought about the future. What if software could be delivered online as a service, rather than sold in a box? At that time, their idea seemed impossible. The idea of people trusting their most important financial data to a server in the sky was unthinkable. What made the transformation possible, in addition to a lot of fortitude and resilience in the face of many naysayers, was that clear future that the startup team imagined, and everyone could understand and align to. By crafting a single, simple, engaging description of the future that you want to see, you'll attract followers and inspire them to take action. I call this the What If? Future, or WIF.
