- Your sleep environment should be your sleep sanctuary. When you walk into your bedroom, you want it to be your sleep haven, inviting you into bed. Whatever your living situation, do your very best to honor where you sleep, as a space dedicated to sleep. Your bedroom shouldn't be your entertainment center, or an office. And reserve your bed for sleep and sex. You want your brain and your body to associate your bed with relaxation and sleep. So to optimize your bedroom for good sleep, it needs to be dark, cool, quiet, peaceful, and comfortable. The darker the room, the better. If you don't have blackout shades or curtains, consider using an eye mask. Unwelcome light in your bedroom will interrupt your body clock and signal your brain that it's time to be awake. The body needs to be cool for sleep, but not too cool, around 65 to 68 degrees is recommended. For couples, this can be challenging. But adjust your bed coverings…
