Create shapes from external data

- [Instructor] You can use Visio Professional or Visio Plan 2 to link a blank diagram to external data, and then use the data to create shapes. The first example uses the data shown in the external data window to add servers to an ethernet network segment. Using the first entry in the Product Description column, tap to select the file server master in the stencil, then drag the data row onto the page. When you link data to shapes, Visio chooses data fields to visualize as happened here with CPU speed, while sometimes useful, you may want to turn that feature off. To do so, go to the Data tab, select Advanced Data Graphics, and uncheck Apply after linking data to shapes. Select Advanced Data Graphics again, and then click the None icon to hide the applied graphic. Now drag the second row of data using the same master, select the web server master in the stencil and drag the third row onto the page, and then repeat to create…
