Create a resume and cover letter
From the course: Job Hunting for College Grads
Create a resume and cover letter
- When I was in college applying for jobs I avoided applying to companies that required me to submit a cover letter. They took forever to write and I never quite understood what was supposed to go in them. Looking back, I realized that I missed out on great opportunities, because I couldn't bring myself to write one of those dreaded cover letters. If only I would have known how simple they were. The cover letter is like the wrapping paper for your resume. It needs to include three paragraphs. The first paragraph is about why you're applying for the position. Use this opportunity to highlight your most important and relevant experiences that are on your resume. The second paragraph is all about the company, include what excites you about working there. Finally, the third paragraph is an enthusiastic sign-off and a confirmation of next steps. You might say something like I'm really looking forward to talking with you…
