Create a nightly ritual for sleep
- A good night's sleep is essential for peak productivity. Your schedule should include strategic choices about how much sleep you get and how you'll prepare for it. You may have heard that most people need eight hours of sleep, yet the National Sleep Foundation says a person's required sleep can vary from as much as six to 10 hours per night. I've found that I require about nine hours to function fully. Finding out how much sleep you need is a matter of personal testing. Don't be afraid to try different lengths of sleep until you find what is right. Perhaps even talk to a doctor. Build a schedule around your number. What time do you need to begin work? Subtract from that the amount of time you need to get ready, then subtract from that the number of hours you need to function fully in terms of sleep. That will get you to the time at which you need to go to sleep each night. Put that in your schedule. Then…
