Create groups inside of the LinkedIn Learning platform in order to organize users into departments. Creating groups makes it easier to share content to specific departments and improves your ability to assess the analytics.
- [Instructor] With any organization, you'll likely have different areas of expertise or different departments. To accommodate this as a LinkedIn Learning admin, you'll have the ability to group users on the LinkedIn Learning platform. Let's take a look at how we can create these groups. First, I'm going to go up to the People tab up at the top and then from here I'm going to select Groups. Once I do that, you'll see here that I have three groups already created, Sales, the Sales East Region, Sales West Region. But I want to create a new group and I can do that by going in the upper right corner and clicking on create new group.
Once I do this, I can enter in the name of it, in this case it's Marketing and then I can go ahead and add members right away from inside of here. I'll start typing in Mary, you can see it populates this. I'll go ahead and start typing in another name and as you can see here, I'll add Allen. And when I'm done, I'll click on Create. Now, as you can see, it has added in that Marketing group. Within this group if I go to the right, I have the ability to add members from right here, clicking on this icon.
I'll close that. I can send an email message directly to that group or I can click on the three dots icon and from there, view and edit the group, create a child group, which essentially is a subgroup. And we can look at child groups here in my example of sales. So when I click on Sales, I'm in here, and this is one that actually has two child groups. Here you see that inside of a group we have the members, in this case, Allen Marcos, Editors, Viewers, Licenses and then Child Groups.
And the child groups for this particular group are the Sales East Region and Sales West Region. So, essentially those are subgroups within this larger group. Now, I'm going to back out of here. We'll go back over, and now you can see this is updated and it's saying that there's two members in the Marketing group and that's because I did add two people in there. Let's go ahead and view and edit that group. Once inside of here, again, from this page I can also add members, I can invite new users by email, or add people who are already in my system.
I can send an email to the entire group. And then down here we have those members. If I wanted to remove a member from the group, I can do that by going to the three dots icon on the right, clicking here and then I have the ability to view and edit their profile, manage licenses, send an email directly to them or remove member from this group. If I do that, it's telling me that this action will remove Allen from only this group and will not affect other groups. I'm going to go ahead and remove him and now you can see he is out of there.
So, I'll back up here. I'm going to create another group. So I'll go up to Create new group. This one I'm going to title Product and in this case, I'm not going to add in any members. I'll click on Create and like that, we have another group inside of here. Now any time that you are navigating and you come across people, so let's say I go to the People tab, users and then I have for instance here, Aaron Quigley. Another thing I can do if I go to the far right and click on the three dot icon, is to directly add them to a group from here.
We saw this before but we hadn't yet created groups. Now I can click on add to group, it'll ask me which one that I'd like to add him to. I'll click Product, save, and it's now added him to that group. Also notice that inside of here, is where we can see the groups that they belong to. So in this case, Aaron belongs to that Product group, Allen belongs to the Sales and Sales East Region group. And sometimes if they don't appear right way, you'll have to refresh your page in order to see that. But that's how easy it is to create groups and then assign people groups within the LinkedIn Learning platform.
