- Editing and crushing your ideas. Once you have used some of these or other divergence exercises to produce a range of new ideas, we then encourage you to edit and crush them. This is another key moment when we especially invite yes and conversations. For instance, if during the divergence phase at an ice cream company's product development workshop, one participant were to say, we ought to try holiday flavors like Turkey dinner ice cream. We would encourage another participant to contribute to this process of consolidation by saying something more like, yes. And we might focus on the cranberries of Thanksgiving to emphasize sweetness rather than yes, but will people want ice cream with meat in it? The goal of this part of the process is not to weed out bad ideas, but rather to reshape your ideas a bit, and then to begin crushing them.
