- [Instructor] If you would like to explore the practice of broadening your own compassion, start by paying attention to your experience of anger or related emotions like resentment or disgust. Notice what triggers these emotions and notice how they feel in your body. Notice your thoughts, your actions and when you experience these states. This in itself is a practice of self-compassion. Be curious about who it is difficult for you to feel compassion for. Maybe there's someone specific who triggers that anger or that disgust or even hate. And if that's true, you might explore your beliefs about their suffering. Can you see this person as a human being who suffers? Do you think they suffer enough or in the right way? Or is there some other way they should suffer, because of who they are, what they've done? And what does it feel like to wish someone that kind of thing?
