- Communicating with your team members and other stakeholders, is critical to the success of all projects and even more so when people are working virtually. You have lots of options for how you communicate so let's talk about how to choose the right medium for the message. First, you need to know communication is situational. There's a great media richness model that can guide you to select the right medium for your message. Basically, medium richness means the ability of a medium, such as video conferencing or email, to communicate and change understanding. Communication mediums can be placed on a scale of rich to lean. Rich mediums mean that more information is communicated, lean mediums allow less. Let's look at two ends of the spectrum.
