- Studies show that even when people have comparable skills, women tend to have less confidence than their male colleagues. This matters, because confidence shows up when we communicate, and is translated into how we're perceived. Think about it. Would you want to follow someone who seemed unsure or uncertain about the direction they were taking? One way to strengthen your leadership presence is to avoid weak language. Weak words get in the way of your message. When communicating it's important to use clear and direct language. Here are some tips to help you communicate with strength, and project your key message with confidence. First, try not to hedge. Instead of starting with I think, I feel, or just; replace those words with I expect, or my analysis and research demonstrates, which completely changes the way your statement will be heard.
