Communicating across the matrix

- Matrix communication can either be very efficient or extremely challenging. Running meetings with all the stakeholders involved for every single issue can destroy the efficiencies of a matrix. The only way a matrix works well is if people trust those who are representing them in those meetings. To enable that, those who attend the meeting should keep their matrix partners informed of major decisions or issues. A focus on managing by exception helps ensure people are only seeing the most important information and not being distracted by topics that either have no impact on them or they don't have the expertise in dealing with. I have one individual who I coach. He works for a hospital system. He runs one of their cancer service lines.
