Communicating about your work from home policy

- So when you are developing a work from home policy, you want to think about how you're going to communicate it to people in your organization. So let's start with, what does a communication plan look like? So this can be a set of guidelines or it can be a set of more formal rules that you need to enforce. But really you have the flexibility to figure out what's right for your company. And then you also want to think about how you're crafting these messages for the individual stakeholders. So let's talk about why that's important. People need clarity in times of uncertainty, and working in this new way, people have lots of questions. And it also gives you a chance to communicate changes that might arise as this new way of working evolves. And it also offers your organization to show that you're being transparent about these changes. So how might you communicate these things? So you might want to have a video call, it could be an email communication to your different stakeholders, it could be an all hands on deck meeting that's from your CEO, or you might empower your individual managers to have that conversation with their teams. But while you're going through this process, there are a few pitfalls that you should be aware of. So there could be timelines involved that are uncertain, you want to make sure that you're avoiding any definitive times because things might change along the way. You also want to make sure that you don't have definitive statements. So as things might be uncertain and change, you're not making promises that you can't keep. And you also want to make sure that you don't have any expectations that might ring false later on. And as you're developing this plan, make sure that you have compassion, right? Everybody's working in a new way now, and in your home environment, things are all different for all employees. So just make sure that you're being flexible with your plan. And if you keep all of these things in mind, make sure you avoid those pitfalls, you're going to make sure that you're ringing home and really resonating with all of your stakeholders.
