- As a leader, it might feel instinctual to shield your team from bad news; however, during times of uncertainty I urge to you fight this instinct. Here are three successful ways to communicate to your team during times of uncertainty. Number one, give them the necessary facts, the good, the bad, the ugly, but only share what's necessary. If knowing the details doesn't really help them, then there's no need to share it, but remember to be honest. Number two, give them ways to help. After you've given your employees the cold, hard truth, ask if them if there are ways that they can help. Are there areas where they can step up and help out the business? Or, if there are no immediate ways for them to step up, maybe it's time to tackle all of those old items that have been on your to-do list forever that never seem to get done.
