Communicate truthfully and transparently

- As a leader, your job during a crisis is to communicate truthfully and transparently with all your people and with everyone who has a stake in this crisis, everyone who could be harmed. They're waiting to hear what you have to say, and you can't just hang back, go to your office, and say, "You know, I really don't know, "I don't want to get out in front "'til I have all the information." You won't have all the facts, but tell the truth about what you do know, and be transparent, be open, say, "We don't know about that, we're going to find out, "we're going to study and learn more, "but right now, we don't know." And it's that honesty that people are looking for from you, and they're looking for your character and how honest you're going to be in communicating.
