Not all matrices are formal organizational structures. Learn that many organizations run informal matrices where a person has one direct boss but strong accountability to another boss. This murky environment can be challenging because the solid line relationship will typically trump the dotted line relationship. Seek to get those accountabilities included in goal and objective setting processes and support team members when they have to make trade-offs to balance these accountabilities.
