(mellow music) - [Joann] My name is Joann Carswell. I'm a software engineering manager in Atlanta, Georgia, and my question is how do you choose what to become a recognized expert in? My career has moved between so many areas that it is difficult to determine which direction to focus on. Do others have this issue? - [Dorie] Hey, Joann. It is definitely not an easy question about how to decide what to be a recognized expert in. I mean for some people, it is. They are specialists by nature. They've known for a long time, I love this niche, and so it's obvious and it's self-evident, but there's a lot of people, myself among them, where it's a lot less clear. If you have a generalist bent or if you have had a lot of different variations in your career, you've done a lot of different things, it may not be quite so obvious what to specialize in and where to make an effort in building up your status as a recognized expert.…
