- To perform at your best in negotiation, you must be ready emotionally, it's a physical act, after all. Negotiation requires concentration and sometimes endurance, as well. Anxiety, even just a little, is a distraction. It can throw you off your game. You need a suppled mindset from start to finish so that you can effectively deal with surprises when they pop up, be they good or bad. A six-step preparation tool is available for you to download in the Exercise Files. You'll be prompted to personalize it so that it fits your own styles and the situations you face. For example, you'll identify what you want to feel going into negotiation and how you'll get in that state.
