- [Instructor] When Joanne Rendall and I were working on the second book in our "System Divine" series, we encountered many instances of writer's doubt. The plot gave us so much trouble, as second books in a series often do. We would think of a plot point that we loved, and then the next day determine it didn't work, or that it opened up a whole other set of problems. During one of our writing retreats, we were particularly stuck on a plot problem and so every morning, we walked around the block discussing it. And no matter what we did, how many times we thought we'd had a breakthrough, we'd always end up back where we started with the exact same problem. Until one day, we did have a breakthrough. Not on our particular plot problem. That came later. The breakthrough was about our process.
