Change Enthusiasm®: A growth mindset

- When I tell others that I teach the strategy of change enthusiasm, it's not uncommon for that statement to be followed by assuming looks. The assumption being, given my naturally upbeat and positive attitude, that it's some overly sugary sweet, blindly optimistic outlook on change. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Change enthusiasm is a growth mindset. It doesn't turn a blind eye to the more challenging and difficult emotions of change. On the contrary, it's the practice of embracing and subsequently harnessing the power of emotion to grow through change. In brief, change enthusiasm is the practice of three simple steps. Step one, recognize and embrace your change signals. These are those emotions like fear, frustration and anxiety, which often accompany big change. These energetic entities serve as very important signals during times of change and disruption. Step two, see change as an opportunity. Opportunity is what your signal emotions are welcoming you into. This step is all about understanding options to maximize the opportunity change presents. Step three, choose your better. The final step is about making a conscious, productive choice towards a better feeling, and subsequently a better result. When these steps are practiced over and over in the face of change, disruption, transition and transformation, you will be building your resilience muscle, creating the fortitude to accelerate your growth through every change challenge faced.
