Challenging the status quo of leadership
- When we studied enduring organizations, we discovered not only adaptability and resilience to be key ingredients to sustainability, we discovered they have five common leadership behaviors. But what's adaptability? Adaptability refers to the degree in which adjustments can be made inside of an organization. So think about adjusting your processes, your practices, your structures, et cetera. Resilience, on the other hand, refers to our ability to recover back from adversity. So what were these five common leadership behaviors? First one, leaders sit in all chairs. So inside these organizations, leadership was not dedicated to a few at the top, but everyone felt like a leader inside the organization. They felt engaged and empowered in their role and in the process of decision-making. The second one, leaders lead themselves first.
