- When you run your own firm, it's tempting to micromanage and not take risks. Your team will never grow that way. Teach your people the standards, set clear expectations, then get out of their way. If you hired well, they'll do great work and help you grow your firm faster than you can grow it on your own. While they might make some mistakes along the way, there's much more upside to setting them free to perform. Several years ago, my firm put on a conference where all my instructors were going to give a presentation. My initial reaction was to get in there and tell them how to present and what to present.
