Case study: A new distribution center

- Many of the concepts we'll cover in this course make more sense when you can see them in context. As we walk through the pillars of the DIRECT project leadership framework, we'll be applying them to a fictional, but realistic project. While the details of your own project will be different, the process should be pretty similar. Our case study involves the US-based company called H+ Sport. Their business is growing. They're selling more than they did in the past, and they're looking for ways to increase capacity and improve the performance of their supply chain. They'll start by considering a number of options, but we'll see that they decide to open a new distribution center. Opening this distribution center will involve not just the logistics team but also teams from facilities, human resources, information technology, finance, and probably some others. As an added challenge, our project manager is new to the role and doesn't yet have the expertise or authority to manage the day-to-day details of the work that everyone will be doing. She'll need to understand what needs to be done, when, and by whom so that she can keep track of everyone's progress and ensure that this project will be successful. So that's the scenario. We've got a project starting to form up, and we'll follow along as H+ Sport uses the DIRECT framework. Ready? Let's get going.
