- Today's hyper-speed world is fueling our natural bias for action and it's prompting some leaders to act in ways that may not be in their best interest. I've seen it first hand. Here's a case in point. A major tech company brought me in to coach some executives during a leadership retreat. They were divided into teams to compete in an outdoor business simulation. Essentially, a highly complex scavenger hunt on a nature trail. Each team received a map, a compass, and a set of clues. The objective was to follow the clues and earn points based on the level of difficulty in reaching different destinations. Oh, yeah, this was a timed event and these executives were very competitive. Before the challenge started, my team had two hours to plan the strategy. They defined roles, set objectives. They elected a map guru and a hint interpreter.
