Early on in my career, I burnt out as an overworked political organizer fighting on behalf of causes and campaigns I believed in, but without the kind of sustainable success practices I needed to make my own basic needs a priority. Although I didn't have agency, rest, or community present in my life, I had a ton of purposeful work driving me forward, which is likely what carried me along that way for years. But as the pendulum often swings way over to the other direction, my next career move left me with more work-life balance, more time for rest and renewal, and more money in my pocket to provide for my basic needs, but no sense of purpose in my life.
