Building a women’s network in the digital era

- AOL-Time Warner Merger is happening so, most of the firm is working on that. So I really had an opportunity to dig in. So I never forget, the first office working with Jerry and Lisa Hall was on 57th Street, and then we moved into the Chelsea Market, and we were one of the first tenants in the Chelsea Market. And so I had this firsthand seat, watching this company grow from 10 to 20, to 30, to 40, to 100, and like watching, just the hustle and bustle and then you also have this brand new space. And then we're learning about, you know, this is the digital era. So how are you creating content, on both platforms at the same time? Because you're new to this in both spaces. And then we're working with distributors, we're working with branding, and I had the great opportunity to work with Linda Ong, so many amazing women around branding and marketing. So I'm learning really early on this kind of connection between Marketing and Communications, because I realized these are my partners. You're my people, so we're going to always work together to figure out what is this oxygen? Who is it for? Who are we... What are we saying about this brand? And probably the most important thing I learned about that, it was the importance of leadership, and from a communications person, like if you don't have that connection with the person that you are representing and the brand that they're representing, it's really hard to do your best work. One day when I was working with Candice Bergen, I'm like, "I'm on set with Candice Bergen!" For one of our first shows, I'm like, "this is insane." and that was another moment when you're like, "wow!" Like it's just amazing to be in the room with all of these amazing women who are being so true to themselves to really create content that's specifically focused on women. So this is before I'm really like living the MTV life and understanding like how we communicate with various specific audiences. So this is very new and revolutionary at the time to be very focused and deliberate against women. So it was really just incredible to learn so much at the hands of these amazing creators and talent in front of and behind the screens. And then of course to work with the Kirstie Moore Amanda back team who brought you know, every show that was my favorite, was really an honor, truly.
