- A large part of any leader's success is a function of the relationships they build with the people they work with. Ultimately, you want to build authentic relationships, leverage your connections, and maximize collaborative environments. Recent research in neurobiology and psychology shows that our relationship with others largely mirrors how we approach them. Humans have something called mirror neurons, and outside of our conscious control, we tend to read and mirror the emotions of others. So if you're open, positive, and warm, they'll likely meet you there. Here are some strategies for building authentic relationships. First, remember that building relationships takes time. You'll need to establish rapport over several interactions, not just rushing in when you need something. As you do, trust can grow, allowing the relationship to deepen.
