- Trust is essential in teams. In order for teams to do their best work, teammates must be able to trust each other. You need to know I've got your back, and I need to believe that about you also. Without a strong foundation of trust, you have a group of individuals operating out of sync and on shaky ground. Your teammates need to trust you'll follow through. If you set the expectation you'll attend a meeting, complete a task, or contact a client, it's important that you follow through. If for some reason you don't or you can't, it's important to offer that information upfront. It's better they hear it from you rather than someone else. We often make commitments, maybe about things we don't think are a big deal, and don't follow through. Think of your credibility as a jar you're filling with coins.
