- So far we've focused on building remote workplace relationships with team members. However, there are many ways to stay connected with peers and ex-colleagues as well. These are people who may share similar interests or have a similar background to yours. Connecting with them will not only provide additional relationship support, but also can have the added bonus of boosting your career. These less formal connections sometimes called weak ties can eventually strengthen and grow into an important part of your network. I'm continually amazed at how connections I built years ago become valuable relationships. The easiest way to recognize these connections is to search your social networks, especially LinkedIn. Look at the people you're connected with and find someone you haven't talked to for a while. Perhaps you used to work together or you met at an industry event.
